Designed to aid the teacher or administrator in evaluating pupils and programs in terms of goal achievement, desired outcomes, program adjustment, and development of evaluation strategies.

Students will demonstrate competency in computer applications in the instructional process, including the development of learning materials, the location of educational resources, and the use of software for assessment and classroom management.

This course examines the impact of past and contemporary assets in American education from anthropological and sociological perspectives, focusing on the teaching and learning of students from diverse backgrounds.

Basic principles of curriculum improvement with emphasis upon the means by which schools can more effectively provide learning through curricular organization, adjustment and rebuilding.

This course provides a review of current laws, court cases, and relevant due process hearings. The course focuses on what the law says and how the courts are interpreting the law. This course prepares students for the trends in special education and the reasons for these trends.

Topics build basic knowledge in oral, reading, and writing development in English Language Learner (ELL) students. The course covers language acquisition theories and literacy development in the first and second language. The course assists practicing classroom teachers in meeting the needs of ELL students with varying levels of English language proficiency and educational experiences.

Focus on theory and practice of teaching, with emphasis upon leadership responsibilities in improving the effectiveness of the classroom teacher.

This course is designed to prepare teachers to address literacy in the content areas from the intermediate grades through the secondary level. The course focuses on prompting a wide variety of reading materials that students can and want to read, instruction that builds study skills to read complex materials with comprehension and be successful in content areas across the curriculum.

This course is a capstone seminar for students that articulates the role of, and explores the varied dimensions of, the process of reflective teaching as it may be utilized by the elementary, special education, reading or secondary teacher.

MAE – Curriculum & Instruction Online Requirements

  • Active teaching license—no minimum teaching experience requirement
  • Bachelor's degree, conferred in any field, from a regionally accredited institution
  • Candidates with a 2.75 -2.99 GPA must provide an official GRE (minimum 142 verbal, 139 quantitative) or MAT (385) score; this requirement is waived for candidates with a 3.0 or higher GPA

Test International Admission Requirements:

Dependent upon program and/or visa status, additional graduate admission requirements must be met. Please refer to the "Admission Requirements for International Students" page on our website for detailed information and forms that may be required.

All admission documents must be received and processed before selection committee review. Regular admission will be granted to applicants who have met all entrance requirements. To be granted conditional admission, unofficial transcripts and entrance exam scores/portfolio items may be submitted until Graduate Admissions receives the official documents. If official documents are not received as prescribed in the current Graduate Bulletin, all classes will be dropped. Applicants who do not meet regular or conditional criteria for admission to a program will be denied admission.

A savings of $111 will be applied course by course for the first nine courses; the last course will be free. This scholarship is only available for students that start the program through the 2018 Fall 1 session.
