Introduces and expands upon issues essential to the professional nursing role. Historical, ethical, legal and professional content is added to information already understood by the RN. Developing student proficiency necessary to meet scholarly expectations of the university and the nursing profession are addressed.

Presents a review for RNs of the principles of pathophysiology in relation to holistic assessment, progression and treatment of disease in humans. Integrates the principles of pathophysiology for clients across the lifespan.

Prepares the student to perform holistic nursing assessment and physical examination. The course and lab are taken concurrently.

Introduces the research process with emphasis on evaluation and application of nursing research to current practice for RNs. The research process, terminology, qualitative and quantitative perspectives are presented in an attempt to develop a foundation for evidence-based holistic practice. Nursing research studies will be evaluated for their content and their application to clinical practice.

Admissions

  • Must have graduated from an accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program. Otherwise, you must successfully complete the National League for Nursing (NLN) Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam (NACE) II to validate current knowledge in pediatrics, obstetrics, adult health, and psychiatric nursing.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all completed college credits
  • Unrestricted RN license
  • High school transcripts are required for anyone who graduated after 1989. This can be waived with proof of 6 hours of U.S. History and 60+ hours on official college transcript.
